RICIN ARREST RAISES NEW CONCERNS

According to Holger Münch, President of the BKA or Germany’s Federal Criminal Police, a suspect identified only as Sief Allah H. (under Germany’s strict laws for releasing suspect information), a 29-year-old Tunisian man who maintained an apartment in Cologne. Police said that the Wednesday (June 27^th) arrest averted a “major biological terrorist attack.”

RICIN is an extremely potent element of the castor bean. Using a coffee grinder, the suspect was able to extract the ricin and according to the BKA, they found 3,150 castor beans. One bean can produce enough toxin to kill a human. According to sources, “a dose of purified ricin powders the size of a few grains of table salt can kill an adult human. The median lethal dose (LD50) of ricin is around 22 micrograms per kilogram of body weight if the exposure is from injection or inhalation (1.78 milligrams for an average adult.)
