It is with a mixture of outrage and sadness that we here at SCI offer our condolences to the Kissimmee Police Department and the family and friends of Matthew Baker and Sam Howard. They will be mourned as heroes; killed as servants of what is right and just in this war of crime and terror with a strategy to kill police officers. Those responsible range from local lunatics with a vendetta urge to ISIS and a host of other unstable and evil people out there. Bury your head in the sand if you so choose; but, for most of us, it is a clarion call to take responsibility for our own safety. In an emergency, the first hours are crucial to the security and success of the mission. America stands in those early hours. What we do as individual citizens and communities now will set the stage for our future and that of our children. In my book, “Stretching the Thin Blue Line: Policing America in Times of Heightened Threat” I call for a new strategy of citizens and police together; not in a worn-out program for feel good community efforts but in the trenches working together to stop the next attack. I argue that changing our communities and our nation begins in changing the home. Until God is the center of our homes, dysfunction will be the order of the day. The Bible warns us: “Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Ps. 127:1 NKJV) Our heartfelt prayers for Michael Fox, Kevin Jarrell Jacksonville Fla., and the PA Troopers all shot on 18 August 2017. We are thankful they are survivors!
