Recently I read an article about a young veteran of the war in the MIddle East who has become quite famous since his return. An IED sent his humvee flying into a culvert and killed part of the crew. The blast robbed him of his left arm and left leg. This particular vet fell into an abysmal pit of depression and alcohol abuse. It was, finally, his understanding of what he meant to his daughter and his two sons that began to bring him back to where he could fight to get on top of his injuries and his depression.
Here is his statement. “I am the first thing my two boys see as a man and that’s who they are going to become when they grow up, whether they like it or not. I have to remind myself of that, and if I am not being a good person they won’t grow up to be good men. And my little girl: I am what she sees in what a man should be. If I am not being a good man, that’s who she is going to find one day, so I have to be constantly showing her what a good man does so she can find that one day herself.”
Several years back a song was written and sung by a popular husband/wife team. The song focuses on the need a daughter has for her daddy’s love. It can say what needs to be said here much more eloquently than I. Following this are the lyrics. Tap the hyperlink on the photo here and let it take you to the music. Her Daddy’s Love by Steve and Annie Chapman
You are the one she longs to please
There’s a place in her heart that can only be filled
With her Daddy’s love

But if you don’t give her the love she desires
She’ll find someone else but they won’t satisfy
If your little girl grows up without Daddy’s love
She may feel empty
And it’s only because it’s…
Her Daddy’s love
That she’s looking for
Don’t send her away
To another man’s door
Nobody else
Can do what you
She just needs her Daddy’s love
And someday if you hear that her purity’s gone
She may have lost it trying to find
What was missing at home
Let the Heavenly Father heal where you’ve failed
He can forgive you and help you to give her…
Her Daddy’s love
That She’s looking for
Don’t send her away
To another man’s door
Nobody else
Can do what you
She just needs her Daddy’s love
You know it’s true
She just needs her Daddy’s love
