That which we are…
It was as if someone had built a looking glass for Alice to step through or Doctor Emmett Brown had given us a joy ride in his Delorean… the RHS Class of 75’s Fortieth Reunion was more than a meeting of classmates it was a bridge between a time past, of persons of that time to people of today molded, marked, moved by the experiences of those intervening years. I saw a beauty in lives lived, a resilience earned by battles fought and a challenge to grab hold of what is to come. I appreciate so much what it took to bring this group together across the miles and over the years. I expect I will never forget a memory shared with me by one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to know. As I thought about the stories I heard and watched the faces of people who share a part of my life that I thought was gone, I could not help but recall a line by “M” in the James Bond movie, “Skyfall” as she quotes Tennyson… “We are not now that strength which in old days moved heaven and earth, (at least the world as we saw it between Friday night football and first dates), that which we are, we are. One equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will. To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.” Each has endured and in their own way survived not as defeated but as strengthened more than we would have imagined possible. That which we are… We are the Indians, the mighty, fighting Indians… One class out of many but now one heart, one history, one dream. May God bless you all.
