FLAG ETIQUETTE for MEMORIAL DAY

9-11 Never Forget
 FLAG at HALF-STAFF

MEMORIAL DAY … Today it is ‘the beginning of summer’ and ‘another long weekend’ or a ‘holiday for the family’. As true and as good as those things are they are not why we have a Memorial Day. It is a day set aside to remember the ultimate sacrifice of so many thousands of men and women who have served our country with their last drop of blood, their final breath and who have left behind a proud and grieving family and a grateful nation. We honor them by parades and solemn ceremonies in cemeteries the nation over. With taps and marching bands we salute these brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines.

There is a one-of-a-kind flag etiquette that is only for Memorial Day. From dawn on Memorial Day until Noon the American flag is flown at half-mast. At noon it is raised briskly to the top to fly in full staff until dusk. The purpose is to honor the fallen in the morning and to look forward to a time in the future when there are no more who must die. A noble thought, at least.

Show your thankfulness for these sacrifices made by so many so that today we remain the most free people on the face of the earth, fly your flag and fly it correctly.

May God bless the families of the fallen and may He also bless America as America seeks to bless God!
